Good animation
Ever since I heard of the draft of the project, a few years ago, I wondered how this project would be completed. At the time, fitting an hour long movie into a Flash Animation seemed kind of absurd.
Now that we're here, with all the parts combined, I feel glad to see this movie completed and it stands as a testament to the willpower of an animator to get the job done and see the original draft through.
That being said, the decline in humor is just absurd. I watched in anticipation for a good joke that never came. Not even Chris Zito, Josh Tomar or Arin Hanson could deliver anything that could make an impact to an otherwise dire movie.
With good writing, these voice actors can deliver an entertaining and funny movie to their audience. I fail to see exactly how you can write dialogue so bad that these amazing people, with more than enough talent, could not deliver anything funny.
The animation was good. A vast improvement over earlier iterations of the series. It's almost universally accepted that an animator must grow with time and you've shown that you can.
I'm sure that when sat down to watch this movie, I knew that I wasn't the target audience. I'm 19 years old and I don't find dick jokes that funny any more. But even comedy for children can also be aimed at adults. Kenan and Kel is a straight-up Nickelodeon kids show, but I can still find it funny because the actors are doing a good job and the writing is comedic.
There were jokes that could have been done so much better with so little change. I want to believe that the script hasn't been changed in the years since it was originally drafted. NEDM? Longcat? If the year was 2005, sure, it'd be hysterical. But it's 2010. I can't even believe that an audience NOW would find that funny. But if they are, I'm beginning to feel that little bit more sorry for the younger generation of the internet.
Chris Zito's shouting can only go so far.
Getting bad voice actors for the Thomas scene was cringe-worthy.
I don't know if Arin agreed to give voices for Zordon, but if he did he actually sounded like he WAS dying inside.
If there's one person who I feel sorry for, more than anyone else, it's Josh Tomar. What an amazing performance and what an absolute travesty that surrounded both him and his dialogue. He was the only person who was convinced that he could make his dialogue funny and energetic and it really shows in his delivery. If there's anyone that deserves a paycheck for this movie, it's Josh Tomar.
What I find infuriating is the amount of times that I've believed that you could really change your humor for the better. Arin manages to make his humor accessible to younger audiences and also make his peers laugh. I can't laugh at this, Chris. I can't laugh at this at all.
Knowing what's coming next, the Nintendo 64 collabs and such, I only pray that you can take my advice and really think about jokes that span a wide audience instead of going narrow and straight with an audience that actually laughed when you said "days" instead of possibly "hours".
The only thing that was enjoyable was seeing you not drag a joke on for too long.
I want to believe that you can create something enjoyable for me to watch, Chris. Not just me, but everyone who wants to consider you as a friend and everyone who considered you a friend.
Until then, keep animating and growing stronger at your trade. If there's one thing you don't lack, it's perseverance.
There's a point at which you'll crack universally-ageless accepted humor. Until then, you know how to cater to a young audience. Unfortunately, judging from the score this time around, that too might be in jeopardy.
Good animation. Could use better writing and better casting.
Keep at it, Chris.
